Invited Aboard the Al Muraykh: ATL Haulage Visits One of the World’s Largest Container Ships

During April, the ATL Haulage team had the fantastic opportunity to visit the impressive container vessel Al Muraykh, thanks to the kind invitation of Kenny Cheung and Keith Cridland from Hapag-Lloyd AG.

Hosted at DP World London Gateway, the visit provided a fascinating insight into the scale, technology and coordination behind modern container shipping. It was an opportunity to experience first-hand the operations that keep global supply chains moving and reinforce the partnerships that connect ports, shipping lines and transport providers.

A Closer Look at the Al Muraykh

Welcomed aboard by Captain Symanksi, the team explored the 400-metre-long Al Muraykh. One of the largest container vessels operating today, she is capable of carrying almost 20,000 TEU, demonstrating the extraordinary scale and efficiency of modern container shipping.

Standing on deck offered a unique perspective on the engineering, planning and teamwork required to move cargo across international trade routes before it even reaches the UK’s road network.

Behind the Scenes at DP World London Gateway

A special thank you also goes to Chris Pomfrett, UK Port & Terminal Director at DP World, for supporting the visit around both the port and the vessel.

Witnessing operations at DP World London Gateway was just as impressive as exploring the ship itself. From advanced automation and precision crane movements to the careful stacking of containers, every stage of the operation demonstrated the efficiency and coordination needed to keep one of the UK’s busiest container ports running around the clock.

For ATL Haulage, which works with containers arriving through the UK’s major ports every day, seeing these processes up close reinforced the importance of every link in the supply chain.

Strengthening Relationships Across the Logistics Industry

Container logistics depends on strong partnerships between shipping lines, ports and transport providers.

Visits like this provide valuable opportunities to deepen our understanding of the challenges and innovations shaping the industry while strengthening relationships with organisations including Hapag-Lloyd and DP World.

We’d like to thank everyone involved for their hospitality and for providing such a valuable insight into the operations that help keep the UK’s supply chains moving.
